WHO IS IT FOR?

As one of our registrants said right before signing up, “So this retreat is really for anyone with a back who wants to know how to take the best possible care of it”

- I couldn’t have said it better myself!

If you are coachable and you are willing to relearn how to think, eat, sit, stand, sleep, lift, carry, walk and do daily tasks, then this retreat is for you.

This retreat is for anyone who has recurring or persistent back pain and who wants to be more proactive managing it.

It’s for you if you can get your butt on a plane and get to Costa Rica - which I totally understand is a daunting prospect if you’ve got back pain.

Click on this podcast I recorded for great tips on Traveling with Back Pain.

Once you’re at Imiloa, the movement practices we’ll be doing will be modified for whomever is in the room. It’s a great learning experience for everyone to learn how to regress and progress exercises and activities for different conditions and varying abilities.

If you think this all sounds great but you’re still unsure if this retreat is appropriate for you, feel free to email me so that we can set up a time to speak directly.

If you’re currently under the care of a doctor or physio, you obviously want to get their thumbs up.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND?

I am expecting 15-20ish people

WHAT KINDS OF PEOPLE WILL BE THERE?

So far, the registrants who’ve signed up are all really cool, nice, interesting people who I’m excited to hang out with and whose company I know you will enjoy too.

Retrain Back Painers are a self-selecting group of down-to-earth, body-aware, kind humans. Although most of my clients and students are from the US and Canada, I’ve been teaching globally for ten years so we’ve also a wonderful international student base as well.

The thing is that everyone with back pain is dealing with the same vacuum of practical information for proactively managing back pain. So you can expect great people from all walks of life.

WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS EVENT?

This event is five days of healing and learning.

The entire experience is designed to help you to feel smarter and be better prepared to deal with your back pain so that you can get back to the business of being you.

This event will be like a Reader’s Digest intensive of the Greatest Hits of Retrain Back Pain protocols

This means that I will be cherry-picking, combining, condensing and contextualizing all the best practices from both my Back Rehab Boss online group Program and my Individualized Retrain Me One-to-One Coaching Programs! This has never been done before (so you're getting a helluva value)

At the same time, our retreat pros at Imiloa will be ensuring you’re more comfortable than you’ve ever been.

WHAT WOULD A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?

This is your holiday and I want you to make the most of whatever’s going to fill your cup.

Although we’ve got a fabulous retreat schedule planned, you are always 100% in charge of your own schedule: If you don’t want to show up for a workshop or meal, no problem! If you’d like to go into town one day, go right ahead!

That said, the the daily layout of the retreat looks like this:

8:30am Breakfast

10:00am RBP Workshop

12:00pm Lunch

2:00pm RBP Workshop

4:00pm Free time/Spa time/Pool/Beach

6:30pm Dinner

As you can see there’s plenty of free time before, during and after our retreat schedule to get a massage, soak in the pool, take a nap and chill out.

Plus, I have a couple of Special Events planned:

Friday evening, we’re turning down the lights for a Jungle Dance Party (right after our how-to-dance-with-back-pain evening lesson)

Saturday evening, we’ll all go down to the beach together for a special healing blue clay ceremony.

WHEN IS THE RETREAT?

This uniquely transformative retreat experience will take place over five glorious days.

You’ll arrive at the Imiloa Institute by 5pm Thursday, February 3rd and you will be on your way back home by 11 am Tuesday, February 8th, 2022

WHERE IS THE RETREAT?

The Imiloa Institute is located in the jungle on top of the Savegre Mountains, overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, adjacent to the second most biodiverse land on the planet.

Expect to see sloths and monkeys on the property!

Dominical, a beach town with surfer vibes, great coffee and plenty of shopping is just 13 minutes away.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT IMILOA?

Everything is special about Imiloa!

It’s such a unique, caring, beautiful space of healing, I honestly can’t think of a better place to jumpstart your well-deserved health goals.

Imiloa calls itself an “inter-continental institute for the advancement and education of human beings”

The retreat center is nestled in the jungle, just ten minutes from the beach and features campus paths leading to a private waterfall and three salt-water pools and spas overlooking the ocean.

The vibe is low-key luxury: You’ll be sleeping on 850 thread count sheets in individually air conditioned rooms.

Imiloa's dining space, called The Heart, will serve up delicious, five-star, pain-reducing meals and tropical snacks. If you've been looking for a jump start to better health, this is IT.

The staff and overall vibe at Imiloa is caring and attentive without the formality or pretense of, say, a Ritz Carlton

The name Imiloa means “creativity expressed through wonder and imagination”

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT RETRAIN BACK PAIN?

RBP is different because it is a holistic, empowering, educational program. The goal is to share all the wellness and practical daily living tips that I can impart upon you so that you will understand what precipitates your discomfort and so that you are well-equipped, mentally, emotionally, physically and practically to deal with it like a boss.

Although pain relief can be expected, it’s not the main goal of our time together in February.

The main goal is to catapult your body confidence, self-sufficiency and optimize your medical team management by teaching you the Greatest Hits of Retrain Back Pain practices.

Retrain Back Pain (RBP) empowers you with the skills you need to be able to confidently prevent, relieve and self-manage back pain with confidence.

WILL THERE BE TIME FOR ONE-ON-ONES WITH YOU DURING THE RETREAT?

Yes, I will carve out time for individual consultation during the retreat. These will be limited and available on a first-come basis for an additional cost, not included in the retreat.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It costs less than your average four or five star hotel stay, but everything is included, including: Your private plane and transfer, all meals and…. Two daily workshop sessions with me ++.

Your cost will vary, depending on which accommodation style you choose and if you are choosing a single, double or triple.

There are four price points ranging from $2,777 to $3,777

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING IN YOUR TWO DAILY WORKSHOPS?

The daily workshops will be interactive seminar style.

You can expect some lecture-style learning with think, eat, move activities. We’ll be writing, rolling, stretching, strengthening. We’ll also learn how to sit, stand, sleep, lift, carry, walk. You'll return home with a brain and body full of new ways to move through the world in more comfort!

There will be plenty of time each day for Q & A

HOW WILL I REMEMBER WHAT I LEARN ON THE RETREAT?

All retreat participants will receive a manual so that you can continue the good practices on your own.

I will also be offering a special rate for retreat participants who’d like to continue with one-to-one coaching after we leave Costa Rica.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

You’ll fly into San Jose Airport and then take Imiloa’s private plane to Quepos.

That’s right, a private plane :0)

Your concierge experience starts from the moment you land at SJO (San Jose International Airport, Costa Rica): Imiloa’s welcome team will meet you at your gate, bring you through customs and will take care of your baggage.

From there, you’ll be directed to your private aircraft just for you and the other retreat participants. As I mentioned, your private flight to Imiloa from San Jose is only 15 minutes.

At the Quepos landing strip, a luxury SUV will be waiting to drive you to Imiloa, about 25 minutes.

Upon arrival at Imiloa, chilled towels, drinks and snacks will be served by the Imiloa Imiloa.

Imiloa handles everything!

HOW WILL I TRAVEL COMFORTABLY WITH BACK PAIN?

Listen, I know it’s a big deal to consider traveling if you’re having difficulty sitting and moving around with back pain.

With this in mind, I’ve recorded this podcast episode "Tips for Traveling with Back Pain"

I will be hosting a free online workshop in late January to ensure that you're all well-prepared for the journey.

WHAT ABOUT COVID?

  • COVID tests for entry and exit requirements to your home country can be done on site. We have an on-call physician that can come to the property for testing and results sent in English.

  • We follow cleansing and sanitization protocols as per Ministry of Health to ensure a safe environment

  • Staff and retreat participants are asked to follow safety guidelines such as social distancing, washing of hands, and proper mask wearing.
